Society of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus


The Society of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus is a popular Society and devotional group whose basic aim is to bring together all Catholic women, young and old as well as men to follow in the footprints of the patron saint, St. Theresa of the child Jesus in her “LITTLE WAYS” ; that is, doing everything with extraordinary love.

The mission of the Society stands out in its slogan ‘SERVICE TO GOD AND MANKIND’.


THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY ARE;

  • To obtain and maintain personal sanctification and advancement in the spiritual life of members by following ST. THERESA’S LITTLE WAYS OF SPIRITUAL CHILDHOOD
  • To pray for vocations and Missionaries.
  • To promote vocations and aid in the sponsoring and maintenance of Seminarians and Aspirants.
  • To offer assistance towards Parish projects as well as other assignments given it by the Parish Priest or Parish Pastoral Council.
  • To offer material assistance to the needy homes, such as, the orphanages and the Old Age Homes, etc periodically.
  • To offer material assistance to the Parish and religious whenever possible.
  • To bring together all Catholic women in the Archdiocese.

DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT

The Society of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus was established at Corpus Christi Parish, Sakumono in May 2004. Membership has steadily increased over the years and Corpus Christi Sakumono branch is blessed with over 130 members.

At our parish level, we have offered and continue to offer assistance in cash and kind to individuals, institutions and the Parish.

To name a few:

  • Potable water for St. Paul’s Seminary - Sowutuom
  • Annual maintenance and provision of supplies for the water system in St. Paul's Seminary, Sowutuom
  • Annual visits to provide buffet lunch for the formators, seminarians and workers of St. Paul's seminary at Easter
  • Annual packages for the formators and the religious Sisters of St. Paul's seminary
  • Complete furnishing of the Rector’s residence - Sowutuom
  • Canopies and chairs for St. Andrews Clinic - Kordiabe
  • The Stations of the Cross - Corpus Christi Parish - Sakumono
  • Carpets for the aisle in Corpus Christi Parish - Sakumono
  • Water dispensing machines in Corpus Christi Parish - Sakumono
  • The compilation of the Novena booklets for the Novena to St. Theresa of the Child Jesus for the Society in Ghana, put together by the Corpus Christi branch of the Society...and many more.

NOVENA PRAYERS

Novena prayers to our Patron Saint are held from the 9th – 17th of every month.

FEAST DAY

The Feast Day of the Society is commemorated on 1st October, where all branches all over the world observe this as such. Novena prayers leading to the Feast Day start nine (9) days before the Feast Day and ends on the vigil of the Feast, i.e. September 30th.

ADMISSION

Admission is open to all. A new member shall undergo a probationary period of three (3) months before your name is entered into the register. Initiation is conducted just once a year after careful interview and active participation in Society activities and programs. We invite all of you to come and join the noble Society to help live the greatest of all the commandments; ‘LOVE OF GOD AND LOVE OF NEIGHBOUR’
